Part 1: The Basics

1. What is your full name?
annis elaine halloran

2. Where and when were you born?
i was born on july 11, outside of barnton.

3. Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)
my mother died when i was three. i only have the vaguest memory of her, but her name was elaine. my father's name was monroe. he was an english teacher at barnton high school. he died when i was seventeen. when i was thirteen he remarried a woman named sharon, who i don't like. she's a businesswoman type.

4. Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?
i have two stepsisters, heather and ashley. i am really not fond of them. they're both shallow, scheming, anything-to-get-ahead types. we don't have much in common, and they both treated me badly for the time that we lived together. today, ashley and i have made some inroads, but she still takes swipes at me from time to time and i don't trust her.

5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.
i was living alone in a one bedroom apartment. i don't have a lot of posessions, other than my books and sewing things, so it was pretty bare. but i do have quite a lot of books, i should mention.

6. What is your occupation?
i worked as a clerk in the church bookstore where alex attended. it was perfect for me because i never had to see anyone. later, of course, i had to quit, as the alex situation made things rather awkward. now i'm just living off the money i saved and a very small inheritance.

7. Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks.
average. i'm of average height, average weight, and average looks in general. i have chin-length dark brown hair and brown eyes. boring boring boring. there is absolutely nothing to distinguish me from other women my age, except perhaps my clothing. i make most of my clothing myself. i can make it look how i want, and it keeps me busy, since i have little else to do.

8. To which social class do you belong?
i don't know. middle, i suppose.

9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
physical, no. mental, plenty.

10. Are you right- or left-handed?
right.

11. What does your voice sound like?
i enunciate very carefully.

12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?
none in particular, but people often tell me i sound as though i've swallowed a dictionary.

13. What do you have in your pockets?
a komboschina given to me by alex's father, stray threads, scraps of paper.

14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?
i suppose my way of talking annoys some people. nearly everything i do could be considered a quirk, so i won't take time to list all that.

Part 2: Growing Up

15. How would you describe your childhood in general?
i was happiest when it was just my father and i. i was homeschooled and didn't have to deal with anyone but him. i liked to read and play by myself, and wander around outdoors. i had a very happy childhood, until sharon and her spawn arrived.

16. What is your earliest memory?
i remember being given toys after my mother died, and spending hours playing with them. i thought it was a celebration, like a birthday. i didn't really understand what was happening.

17. How much schooling have you had?
as i said, i was homeschooled; i never thought of school as something seperate from my life, because i loved to learn so much. i found out the hard way when i entered a public middle school the first time...

18. Did you enjoy school?
naturally...up until middle school.

19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
books, of course. i learned to write from books and i learned to sew from books. and trial and error. social interaction, coincidentally, is one thing you can't learn from books.

20. While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.
i always remember wanting to be as smart as my father. and cathy from wuthering heights, but that's embarrassing.

21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?
oh, dear. of course, i adored my father and have almost no memory of my mother. sharon, i took an instant dislike to... i always preferred to be treated as a small adult, which is how my father handled me. sharon, on the other hand, was content to give me a barbie doll and keep me out of sight. by that point, of course, heather and ashley were beyond barbies and losing their respective virginities, or whatever girls like that do at that age.

22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
i have never wanted to be anything other than a writer.

23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?
reading, writing, drawing, playing with dolls... i was very traditional in that aspect. i always loved dolls, and i loved to be out in nature.

24. As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?
until entering public school, i never thought of myself as quiet, or a loner... i always had a very "loud" inner life, and i thought that reflected outwardly, until i was around people who were truly outwardly loud.

25. As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?
there weren't very many children in the area i grew up in. i had a friend named jaimie when i was seven or eight, but her family moved to the city. barnton is a town for old folks, it seems.

26. When and with whom was your first kiss?
when i was thirteen, i joined a writers group at the urging of my english teacher, and met a boy named nathan. he was my first kiss and first "boyfriend", though mostly in words only.

27. Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?
of course i'm not a virgin. i lost my virginity to alex when i was 20. a bit late, perhaps, but he had his reservations about premarital sex, being a member of the christ contingent and all. he was a terrible lover, i have to say, and condescending in bed, if such a thing could be possible.

28. If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.
everything i've done in the past influences what i do today. what kind of idiotic question is that?

Part 3: Past Influences

29. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?
coming to the gauntlets, obviously.

30. Who has had the most influence on you?
my father, and certain books i've read...unfortunately alex, in a spiritual and philosophical sense. i can't untangle alex's thoughts and preferences from mine, no matter how hard i try.

31. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
*sigh*

32. What is your greatest regret?
i haven't done anything with my life. that's a regret. i could have tried to be a little more accommodating, a little more normal...

33. What is the most evil thing you have ever done?
it's really hard to say, since i haven't done much of anything, evil or otherwise. alex was fond of telling me what was and wasn't evil, so sometimes i liked to skew my actions in the other direction, if you know what i mean.

34. Do you have a criminal record of any kind?
um...no.

35. When was the time you were the most frightened?
right now! sitting in this so-called hospital with a lot of people who are obviously much, much sicker than i am, and nothing is as it should be... i'm bloody terrified, and you would be too!

36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?
nearly everything that happened to me in school was embarrassing, but looking back, what embarrasses me most is when i first met heather and ashley and tried to show them the doll i had made out of a flower. they had no idea what i was talking about, naturally, and thought it was stupid and sank their teeth in at that very moment.

37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?
i would have focused on something and done it, instead of just surviving from day to day. i would have put a lot of energy into one thing, like writing a novel and getting it published.

38. What is your best memory?
i have a lot of good memories from the writers group, but i think they're somewhat marred by everything else that happened around that time. probably something from childhood, outside, sleeping outdoors...

39. What is your worst memory?
being locked in a supply closet at school by heather and some of her friends.

Part 4: Beliefs And Opinions

40. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?
do i sound optimistic to you?

41. What is your greatest fear?
that i'm not here for any reason, that i don't have any place in this world, and no skills or talents.

42. What are your religious views?
i guess you could say i'm agnostic. i've had so much religion over the past two years that i'm ready for a rest from all that, although i'll always be interested in religion... searching, i suppose.
